Tooth Whitening ___________________________________________________________________________________ Full mouth cost £300.00

Healthy teeth that have yellowed with age or stained from coffee, red wine or smoking usually respond well to whitening. Dentist in Birmingham, Dr Shobhna Chauhan, promotes a home whitening treatment because it is more economical but equally as effective as in surgery bleaching techniques. This is usually the first step in achieving the perfect smile. Top up treatments cost as little as £20.00 and can be applied as desired.

Porcelain Veneers ______________________________________________________________________________ (See ‘success stories’ page)

A veneer is a new, glossy, front surface for a tooth, custom made from porcelain. Veneers are extremely versatile and can be used to align crowded teeth, close gaps or lighten tooth colour. Their appearance and strength rivals that of natural teeth and they make amazing improvements to the smile. A ‘Hollywood smile’ or a ‘naturally beautiful European smile’ can be achieved by veneering incisors, canines and even premolars. See British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, BACD for more details.

Porcelain Crowns

Crowns are used to restore severely broken down teeth. The best aesthetics are achieved from crowns that are entirely porcelain. This is because they have a similar translucency to enamel and do not look opaque. Also these crowns do not leave a dark band at the gum margin, like the ‘old- fashion metal- lined’ crowns.

Gum reshaping

For patients with uneven gum levels, Birmingham female dentist, Dr Chauhan, discusses gingival reshaping procedures when treatment- planning a new smile, especially if there is a high smile line.

Cosmetic Contouring

This is a simple way to reshape and tidy your smile. Cosmetic contouring works well to smooth minor chips, reshape pointy teeth or redefine teeth that have worn flat.

Cosmetic Bonding Composite

Composite is an enamel- like material that is applied to the tooth’s surface. It can be used to restore minor chips and close gaps. It is completed in one visit and is often a fraction of the costs of porcelain work.

White Fillings

There are a number of tooth coloured amalgam- free filling materials available. The most suitable options for your teeth are discussed and recommended along with longevity and cost.

Amalgam Fillings

These fillings are still acceptable in areas of the mouth where aesthetics is not important but strength is desirable at an economical cost.

Tooth replacement

Missing teeth can be replaced with plastic dentures, cobalt chrome dentures, fixed bridges, adhesive bridges and titanium dental implants. Great results can be achieved by combining the latest soft tissue management techniques to make missing teeth appear as if they are growing out of the gums.

Periodontal treatment (Gum Treatment)

Gum disease is a condition affecting the supporting tissues of the tooth i.e. the gum and the bone. It is caused by an adverse interaction of the plaque and the body’s defence system. In its early stages it is symptom less, maybe a little bleeding is detected. However, as the disease progresses, bone is lost, gums recede, teeth may become loose, abscesses can form and halitosis detected. A dry mouth can cause halitosis. Initial treatment compromises two stages: The first is to achieve a high standard of oral hygiene. The second involves the mechanical removal of plaque and calculus from the diseased sites. Once active treatment is complete it is essential that all patients are monitored to reduce the risk of relapse. The aim is to see these patients on a three monthly basis with the dental hygienist.

Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury.

If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment (RCT) is not carried out, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out.

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure. The infected pulp is removed. Any abscesses, which may be present, can also be drained at this time. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped ready for the filling. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently restored.
